Keep keys and values predictable

Keys must start with a letter or underscore and contain only letters, digits, underscores, or hyphens. Values are quoted strings, including values that look like dates or numbers.

Start with a title and status

Both values become quoted strings. Change the fields to match the tool that reads your document.

status=draft

Match the receiving tool’s fields

Front matter is not part of base Markdown. This tool creates simple text fields, not nested objects or arrays. A date remains a string unless another tool interprets it.
